Web development, in layman’s terms otherwise known as website development is an umbrella term that refers to the various tasks that are associated with the design, creation, building and maintenance of websites and web applications that can be accessed and run on an internet browser. Another part of web development may also include web design, web programming and database management systems.
The functionalities of web development are very closely related to the task of designing the dedicated features on the web application, and the term “development” refers to the actual building or construction of these things, website design or programming.
The basic tools that are involved in web development are programming languages known as HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), along with Javascript. There are many other programming languages as well that are being used to build websites and web applications that would have to be done, otherwise from scratch by written code, for this particular purpose, you can make use of Content Management Systems (CMS).
Types of Web Development:
There are three main types of Web Development
Front End Development:
Front development deals with the “client-facing” side of development, meaning it involves the portion of the website, app or digital product the users interact with, hence, it is the Front End developers who are responsible for designing and creating the look and feel of the final digital product. In a way, Front End Developers can be also called as website designers. The main focus of front-end developers is to translate visual data and website design into written code, which means the job of a front-end software developer is to take creative ideas and images from web development teams and program them into reality, they act as a bridge between art and technology.
Other core responsibilities of front-end developers include creating websites that function well on any kind of device, running website testing, detecting and fixing bugs during the web development process and also making sure that the website follows the best Search Engine Optimization techniques and strategies.
Back End Development:
While front-end developers are responsible for how a digital product looks, it is the duty of the back-end developers to make sure it works smoothly. A front-end developer basically creates the framework of a website and ensures it performs in the way it should, they are also tasked with maintaining the site as well. Therefore, the main responsibility of back-end developers is to ensure the functionality of the website, the responsiveness and speed. They are concerned with the systems and configurations that allow computer programs to perform as they are expected to. Hence, back-end developers mostly work behind the scenes in the whole scenario. They build servers with modern frameworks and manage databases and data present on a web server.
Full Stack Development:
A Full-Stack Developer who is well-versed in both front-end and back-end operations. They understand a wide variety of programming languages and because of this reason, they are mostly given leadership roles in projects. Full-stack developers can be called generalists, they wear both hats, a jack of all trades, and they possess deep knowledge about every process and layer of development. According to a study, Full Stack Developer is the fourth most in-demand job in the information technology sector.
